Extending multidimensional poverty identification: from additive weights to minimal bundles

چکیده

Abstract In the popular class of multidimensional poverty measures introduced by Alkire and Foster (2011), a threshold switching function is used to identify who multidimensionally poor. This paper shows that weights cut-off employed in this procedure are generally not unique such functions implicitly assume all groups deprivation indicators some fixed size perfect substitutes. To address these limitations, I show how identification can be extended incorporate any type positive function, represented set minimal bundles define unit as Furthermore, Banzhaf power index, uniquely defined from same bundles, constitutes natural robust metric relative importance each indicator, which adjusted headcount estimated. demonstrate merit approach using data Mozambique, including decomposition ‘one dimension’ non-threshold function.

Shortest Paths with Bundles and Non-additive Weights Is Hard

In a standard path auction, all of the edges in a graph are sold as separate entities, each edge having a single cost. We consider a generalisation in which a graph is partitioned and each subset of edges has a unique owner. We show that if the owner is allowed to apply a non-additive pricing structure then the winner determination problem becomes NP-hard (in contrast with the quadratic time al...

From Unidimensional to Multidimensional Inequality, Welfare and Poverty Measurement

In this handout we review results concerning representation of partial orders via stochastic orders and investigate their applications to some classes of stochastic dominance conditions applied in inequality, poverty and welfare measurement. The results obtained in an unidimensional framework are extended to multidimensional analysis. In particular we provide an overview of the main issues conc...

Clifford algebras bundles to multidimensional image segmentation

We present a new theoretical framework for multidimensional image processing using Clifford algebras. The aim of the paper is to detect edges by computing the first fundamental form of a surface associated to an image. We propose to construct this metric in the Clifford bundles setting. A nD image, i.e. an image of dimension n, is considered as a section of a trivial Clifford bundle (CT (D), e ...

Evaluating Poverty Indicators among Government-Supported Households: A Multidimensional Approach

Introduction: Poverty is an undesirable socio-economic phenomenon that endangers the political stability, social solidarity, and mental health of the different sections of society. The literature on poverty in recent years has not been limited to income poverty, but also to other aspects such as health, education, and living standards. By identifying patterns of poverty, instead of prejudging t...
